Our jungle cocoa comes from the heart of Peru, where indigenous Asháninka communities have been cultivating it for over two decades, predominantly using ecological agroforestry systems. Amidst lush rainforest and clear streams, exceptional aromatic cocoa beans are grown under natural conditions.
After harvesting, the cocoa is fermented in wooden boxes for about 160 hours. From the second day onwards, it is dried daily on shaded screens and placed back into the boxes at dusk – a complex process that requires a lot of experience and care. Afterwards, it undergoes a particularly gentle roasting at around 120 °C for about 15 minutes, which preserves the delicate aromas.
Our Satipo cocoa is natural, carefully processed, and boasts a strong, chocolatey flavor. It is a delicious ingredient for smoothies, porridge, or yogurt.
The cocoa is rich in fiber and contains protein, minerals such as iron, magnesium, and zinc.*

Heavy Metals
In our search for jungle cocoa, we carefully selected our cultivation area. Cocoa can sometimes contain high concentrations of cadmium, a heavy metal that the cocoa plant can draw from the soil in affected areas. Typical areas with high cadmium levels are in Ecuador and northwestern Peru (e.g., Cooperative Econandino). However, Satipo – our cultivation area – is located east of the Andes at the latitude of Lima. This is far away and known to have cadmium levels well below the limits. In addition, our partners from Peru are aware of this issue and regularly test our jungle cocoa.
Work
We work with the Asháninka people, an indigenous group native to Eastern Peru and Western Brazil. Working conditions are not dictated from the outside but rather the other way around. Asháninka communities have been rooted in cocoa cultivation for decades and maintain pesticide-free and fertilizer-free farming practices within their culture.
Fairtrade & Organic? Unfortunately, the price premium that farmers receive through such certifications is not justified and is lower than it should be. Therefore, "Fairtrade" is achieved through the price, not through the label. This way, the Asháninka communities secure their own Fairtrade through the price they demand, and not the other way around. That's why our jungle cocoa is significantly more expensive to buy and thus to sell than the market standard! You are not only paying for outstanding quality but also for fair working conditions on site!
The farmers live according to their indigenous culture because they are aware that nature is their livelihood. Families often work together as a community in the fields. This has nothing to do with what happens in Africa, where children are sometimes bought by large corporations for plantation work.
